Starting the Year with Geography Skills

We are off to a great start for the 2013-2014 school year.  This past week students reviewed what they knew about continents, hemispheres, and latitude and longitude.  Next week we will continue to look at latitude and longitude. In fact the homework for the week is a practice page for students to show their skills. We will also begin learning about the Five Themes of Geography by covering themes one and two.
Besides great things in the classroom, students have also been learning in Hawk Time. We have talked about school rules, students’ rights and responsibilities, and we are engaged in friendly competition with other Hawk Time classes. We earn Pride Points by creating posters, learning important skills for school success, and participating in school activities like the Jog-a-thon to be held Sept. 27th.
Parents don’t forget to come to Back-to-School Night this Tuesday, Sept. 17th. You can see some of your student’s work, meet teachers, and pick up a class syllabus.
Below are a few pictures of students learning about continents in an activity called Continent Rip.
